Room Elephant

Hi! I’m Anthony Appleby. I perform under the name, Room Elephant. I’m a multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, piano, vocals, electronic beats and loops). I come from a jam band background (Appleman Collective: 2006-2017, Sound Mind: 2017-2020), so improvisation and spontaneous creation have always been part of my shows.

 

My Room Elephant performances combine prepared sound clips with live electronic and acoustic instruments. I love to play with the line between pleasing musical structures and surprising sounds on the edge of dissonance.

 

My music resists genre delineation: now jazz; now techno; now ambient; now spoken word. I prefer to explore sonic textures and beats with curiosity and joy. I create improvised performances that respond to the energy of the room. In this way, the performance is a co-creation with the audience.
